Welcome to Agape Ceramic Studio (ACS), School and Retreat House established in 1999, by Tom and Kae Morris in Motomachi, Yokohama, Japan. At ACS, we create, sell and teach traditional as well as modern aspects of Japanese pottery.

At ACS you can find some time-honored traditional wares such as: Bizen, Oribe, Shino and Shigaraki, among others, as well as a variety of modern designs which incorporate many traditional clays and glazes.

Also, if living in or just visiting Japan, please feel free to stop by or call ACS and explore the classes, events, workshops and exhibitions that we have to offer in the world of Japanese ceramics, arts and culture.

Agape Ceramic Studio (ACS) is an international educational environment where both Japanese and foreign students can study Japanese ceramics while using and/or learning conversational English. The philosophy behind ACS is very simple. In our ever-increasing, high-technology, remote-controlled, push-button world, people are finding it harder and harder to enjoy the traditional, simple things in life.

The American philosopher, Joseph Campbell, said "People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on this purely physical plane will have resonance's with our innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture that is associated with being alive." And, "We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget that the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive is what it's all about."

At ACS we hope to recapture that inner value and rapture that is becoming so difficult to find in our ever-increasing modern world. We try to accomplish this by providing interesting and enjoyable, as well as innovative and structured lessons each month where students can relax and be themselves in a nurturing "homey" environment and explore their own unique creative potentiality.
